August 5,2016 marked the finale for a one woman show that left goosebumps on my arms! "The Dairy of an Afro Goddess" (A one-woman show) was held at The WOW Cafe Theater located on the Lower east side of New York City. This space was a perfect set up for the performance offering a intimate stage setting for what was to come. The stage looked like something straight out of a 1070's black exploitation film adding a touch of a spiritual Afro vibe, a lava lamp, and hues of gold and royal Purple.
The show written and performed by Cherie Danielle and directed by Marishka S. Phillips is centered around Isis, the Afro Goddess who is the main entertainment of the Goddess Lounge. In the opening scene Isis greets her visitors to the Goddess Lounge, a special place between heaven and earth. The place lovers of all things love, especially black love past before they reach the man up top in "Melanin heaven."
Cherie captivates her audience as she takes you through Isis's experiences being held in the Goddess lounge. She keeps you laughing as she dances around the room sharing stories of her time on earth. Then tugs your heart as she breaks down the black experience from the Birmingham Church Bombings, the Jim Crow Laws, and the Pro Black Movement of the 1070's! As you follow her on the roller coaster of emotions Isis reminds you how phenomenal it is to be a Black Women! How grand our natural fro is and despite all self love is most important!
Although this must see show has came to an end it will brung back for those of you missed it! For more information on future shows be sure to continue to follow the dreamchaserdreammaker blog, @LivinlifeProductions and @itsinthespotlightmagazine on Instagram
